How to Tie the Orvis Knot
- Pass the line through the hook eye and form a figure-eight loop in the standing line.
- Bring the tag end under and through the bottom loop of the figure-eight.
- Wrap the tag end around the bottom loop 3 times.
- Moisten the knot and pull tight. Trim the tag end.
Pros
- Very strong — won knot strength contests
- Small and compact profile
- Tag end points away from the hook eye, reducing snagging
Cons
- Slightly more complex than a clinch knot
- Not ideal for braided line
Best Used For
