How to Tie the FG Knot
- Keep your braid under tension (use a rod or hold with your teeth).
- Lay the leader over the braid at an angle.
- Weave the braid over and under the leader alternately, 15-20 times.
- Secure with 2-3 half hitches pulled tight against the wraps.
- Trim the leader tag flush.
- Add 3-4 more half hitches moving away from the wraps.
- Trim the braid tag and apply a small drop of UV knot glue if desired.
Pros
- Strongest braid-to-leader knot (near 100% strength)
- Ultra-slim profile flows through guides without catching
- No bulk — ideal for long casting
Cons
- Difficult to learn and requires practice
- Needs tension on the braid while tying
- Time-consuming compared to simpler alternatives
