Alberto Knot

Difficulty: Medium Strength: High Purpose: Braid-to-leader
Alberto Knot

How to Tie the Alberto Knot

  1. Double about 15 cm of the heavier leader line to form a loop.
  2. Pass the braid through the loop.
  3. Wrap the braid around the doubled leader 7 times toward the loop end.
  4. Then wrap back over the wraps 5 times toward the tag end.
  5. Pass the braid through the leader loop from the same side it entered.
  6. Moisten and pull the braid's standing line to tighten. Trim both tags.

Pros

  • Good balance of strength and ease of tying
  • Compact profile that passes through guides well
  • Faster to tie than the FG Knot

Cons

  • Slightly bulkier than the FG Knot
  • Not quite as strong as the FG under extreme loads

Best Used For

Connecting braided line to monofilament or fluorocarbon leader. A great everyday alternative to the FG Knot.
