How to Tie the Arbor Knot
- Wrap the line around the reel spool.
- Tie an overhand knot around the standing line.
- Tie a second overhand knot in the tag end (this acts as a stopper).
- Pull the standing line so the first knot slides down and the stopper knot jams against it.
- Trim the tag end.
Pros
- Extremely simple to tie
- Works with all line types and reel types
- Only needs to hold while initial line is wound on
Cons
- Not strong enough to fight fish directly from the arbor
- Can slip on very smooth spool surfaces
