How to Tie the Arbor Knot

1. Wrap the line around the reel spool.
2. Tie an overhand knot around the standing line.
3. Tie a second overhand knot in the tag end (this acts as a stopper).
4. Pull the standing line so the first knot slides down and the stopper knot jams against it.
5. Trim the tag end.

Pros

• Extremely simple to tie
• Works with all line types and reel types
• Only needs to hold while initial line is wound on

Cons

• Not strong enough to fight fish directly from the arbor
• Can slip on very smooth spool surfaces

Attaching any fishing line to a spinning, baitcasting, or fly reel spool. The starting point of every reel setup.
