Double Uni Knot

Difficulty: Medium
Strength: High

Best Used For

Braid to MonoBraid to FluoroLine to LineReliable

Reliable knot for connecting braided line to monofilament or fluorocarbon. Good alternative to the FG knot.

About the Double Uni Knot

The Double Uni Knot is the reliable workhorse for connecting different line types. It's essentially two Uni knots tied against each other, creating a strong and dependable connection between braided mainline and monofilament or fluorocarbon leaders. While not as strong as the FG knot, it's much easier to tie and still provides excellent performance for most fishing situations.

Best Line Types: Braided mainline to monofilament or fluorocarbon leader

Knot Strength: Retains approximately 80-85% of the line's original strength

When to Use: Perfect when you need a reliable leader connection that's easier than the FG knot. Great for bass fishing, general freshwater, and light saltwater applications.

Reliability Factor: Extremely consistent performance - ties the same way every time with predictable results.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Overlap the lines: Overlap the braided line and leader by about 6 inches.
  2. Tie first Uni knot: With the braid, create a loop and pass the tag end through 3-5 times, then snug down.
  3. Tie second Uni knot: With the leader, create a loop going the opposite direction and pass the tag end through 2-3 times.
  4. Wet both knots: Moisten both Uni knots with water or saliva.
  5. Pull together: Pull the standing lines in opposite directions to slide the knots together.
  6. Final tightening: Pull firmly on all four ends to fully tighten the connection.
  7. Trim excess: Cut both tag ends close to the knots.
